Correcting a return or accounts you have filed
How to put right a Company Tax Return or accounts that have already gone to HMRC or Companies House.
If you filed with us
Sign in and open your returns page. Next to the return or accounts you want to correct, press one of these:
- Correct this return if something was wrong
- Correct these accounts if something was wrong
We fill in the form from what we sent. Check every section, change what was wrong, then send it.
If you filed somewhere else
Start with the company number, as for any filing, and pick the dates of the filing you want to correct. If they aren't offered, press the link below: Choose custom dates
For a tax return, press: Correct a tax return HMRC already has for these dates
For accounts, press: Correct the accounts at Companies House
Then fill in the form with the right figures and send it.
What happens to the first filing
HMRC receives an amended return that says it changes the earlier one.
Corrected accounts say they replace the originals. A correction does not remove the first set from the public record.
If we can't correct it from here
HMRC only accepts an amended return for a limited time, and a few filings can't be corrected here. If that applies to yours, the form says so before anything is sent. Companies House also accepts corrected accounts on paper.
